Cheltenham Saracens II 18 v 12 Old Centralians II
Playing a re-arranged.fixture sarries arrived slightly later than planned, and this showed in the first five minutes as old cents used there pace to round the defence on a couple of occasions to threaten the sarries line, however dogged.defence from.backs and forwards alike prevented a score! Turnovers gave the sarries a platform and they started.to rattle the opposition, which allowed a break and chip from dom richardson to be hacked on and gathered by Dan hammond to go over for the try!
More pressure from the sarries forwards at both.set piece and ruck allowed latched to slot a penalty, which was followed by a lovely worked try from m.prosser (who unfortunately got injured in the act of scoring),also converted..15-0 sarries.
This galvanized old cents who managed to obtain quick ball and marched towards the sarries, eventually the pressure told and the cents barrelled his way through some indifferent tackling to score and convert on the stroke of half time.
This sparked old cents in the second half, added with some changes put immense pressure on the defence, who gave away far too many pens, which again set up their no8 for a score, not converted.
Again pressure in defence was the sarries watchword allowing watchword to ping the corners with some immense kicks, finally setting up a penalty to make it a final score of 18-12.
Another good win and performance by forwards and backs alike against a marked step up.in.opposition.
Cheltenham Saracens III 28 v 0 Smiths
Was it Smiths seconds or their firsts or mixture, it made not a scrap of difference to Saracens players as they took a massive step forward to winning their league.
Playing into the stiff wind 1st half the Sarries fronted up and with fly half Scott Innes pulling the strings the true Cheltenham side made the early running.
And from a fine break from Innes saw Connor Mcquaid make monkies out of the Smiths defence and he cruised home. Brad (not Mark) Harris converted for the first of his 4 out of 4.
Sarries continued to make the play only struggling in the scrums where ex national league player Stan Gilder still showed he had the power. However this not deter the Sarries and some barn storming runs from Will Allen, Smudge Smith and Ollie kept them in the hunt. One such run from Olllie saw him smash past several would be tacklers to go over. The Sarries led 14-0 at half time.
The second half saw the arrival of several Smiths first team players but straight from the kick off a fine turnover saw Innes chip through for McQuaid to snatch the pill to score.
More first team players were sent on but this just meant the Sarries raised their game. And from a quick line out Simin Betteridge made great ground and put club legend in Paul Crombie for his usual storming try.
Smiths then throw everything at the Sarries but heart in the tackle meant they came up short. Even the sin bin of another legend Gary Short saw no change as the Sarries got home 28-0.
