Cheltenham Saracens 14 v 11 Spartans

The Sarries traveled to the notoriously difficult place to win and came away with a hard fought victory. The Sarries started at a ferocious pace one that the Red Ants could not cope with and after only 5 minutes number 8 Stu Cooper was rewarded with a push over try. The Sarries played the next 10 minutes at the same pace with forwards and backs combining well producing phase after phase and if it wasn`t for the junior size pitch and to be fair to Spartans there total commitment at the tackle they could of quite easily scored a couple more try`s as it was there were kept to just the one try and Spartans were rewarded late in the half with a pentalty giving the Sarries a slender half time lead of 5 – 3.

The second half started off badly for the Sarries with a knock on at the restart and a penalty being given away the Spartans kicker slotted the kick giving the bottom side in the league a lead and the confidants that an upset was on the cards with there vocal passionate crowd giving them the extra man at times it was the reliable boot of Jonny Carter who silenced them with a penalty kick of his own, however this did not last long because the never say die attitude of the home and a few strange decisions saw them cross the visitors line and take the lead again, this was the trigger for the Sarries to pull there socks up and blank out the crowd and get on with playing some rugby of there own and after being camped in the home sides half for some time but not having any luck crossing the line Carter decided to take the game by the scruff of the neck and duly slotted 2 superb drop goals giving a battered Sarries a valuable away win and keeping them on the promotion chase.
