Another disappointing away result for the Sarries in game that was there for the taking.
The Sarries started the brighter of the two teams playing down the slope with some excellent line breaking from Hanger and Rogers it wasn`t long before Ashley Down were giving away penalties and after only 2 minutes on the clock Latchford found him self taking his 1st chance at goal which narrowly missed, this did not seem to unsettle the Sarries because only a minute later Latchford found himself taking another shot that was this time on target and that set the tone for the next 10 minutes of the game.
With the Sarries looking like the only team on the pitch that was going to be able to score, but as like previous games the final pass either being dropped or going forward and the frustration was growing within the Sarries and the penalty count was starting to go against them with Ashley Down kicking two of there own penalties. The game was becoming a very slow affair with the large and ageing Ashley Down pack grinding away, but credit to the young pups of the Sarries front row they managed to force a penalty at the scrum which Latchford slotted with ease, with the scores even Ashley Down started to get the rub of the green with yet again there forward pack slowing the game down at every opportunity and the ball not going past the fly half the Sarries defense eventually giving away a penalty for being to eager to make the next tackle with Ashley Downs on form goal kicker taking advantage giving them a 9-6 lead.
But it still was Ashley Down looking like the side that wanted half time to come, with yet again more great build up play from the Sarries but just not being finished off. Then 5 minutes before the end of the first half it was Ashley Down resulting to type with a catch and drive line-out and then about half a dozen pick and goes that they finally crossed what seem to be the uncross-able Sarries try line and again the Ashley Down kicker adding the conversion. Half Time 16 v 6.
The 2nd half saw the Sarries struggling to cope with the home sides pack continuing to keep battering down the slope and up close to the ruck, but they still had lots of chances but yet again wrong decisions and poor quality passing saw chance after chance go begging until stalwart and little hard man Francis took the game by the scruff of the neck taking several quick tap and go penalties to try and speed the game up and move the lumpy home side around payed dividends with this time some quality passing starting with Latchford ending up with Chris “the pirate” sailing over in the corner Latchford unsuccessful with the conversion, but a miss understanding from the restart gave Ashley Down a gift of a try which wasn`t converted, all that was left was for the Ashley Down fly Half to finish off what was an impeccable day with the boot and slot another penalty leaving the final score 24 – 11 to the home side.
